Since 1975

Half a century on East Beach

Before the whale, this building on Washington Avenue (now Marine Drive) held the Messere family’s shoe repair and Mrs. Messere’s pastry and coffee shop. Peter and Claudia Mueller opened Moby Dick here on April 1, 1975, and by 1980 The Columbian was calling it the best seafood south of the Fraser River. In 1999 Ralph and Monika Oswald took the helm and made it a stop for visitors from around the world.

We’re open 11:30 am to 7:00 pm daily, subject to weather (jeepers, we’re a seaside restaurant!). From March 1 we're open until 8:00 pm. Closed Thanksgiving Sunday and Monday. Closed December 24 to 26. December 31: open until 3 pm. Closed January 1.
